House of Creators

House of Creators
Independent publishing & creative practice

Every publication
begins with a purpose.

We develop publications for cultural institutions, creative programmes, archives, artists and public organisations - from the first editorial question to the final printed work.

From our publishing practice - The Creators Economy

Editorial thinking, lasting form

Research. Language.
Image. Material.

We bring editorial direction, bilingual production, design, photography and print management into one considered publishing process.

About the house

01 / About the house

A book begins long before it is designed.

It begins with a question, a body of material that requires reading, an archive waiting to be understood, or an institution seeking to place its work within a wider context.

House of Creators is an independent publishing and creative practice. We develop books and editorial projects through research, writing, editing, design and production. Each publication takes its structure, language and form from the work it needs to do.

We work with cultural institutions and foundations, museums, residency programmes, public organisations, artists, designers and private clients. Our aim is to make publications that can be read, questioned and returned to.

02 / Services

From purpose to publication.

The scope of each commission is shaped around its material, audience and ambitions. These six disciplines form a connected practice, from defining a publication to preparing it for print.

01

Publication strategy

We define why a publication should exist, who it addresses and how its material should be organised. This establishes the editorial, visual and production framework before writing or design begins.

Scope of work
  • Positioning, audience and editorial voice
  • Publication architecture and content formats
  • Bilingual reading structure
  • Format, materials and production direction
  • Frameworks for annual editions
02

Editorial direction & research

We study the project and its context, identify the questions worth pursuing, and bring its material into a coherent editorial structure. Research and conversations give the publication depth and purpose.

Scope of work
  • Background and archival research
  • Interviews and written conversations
  • Editorial sequencing and narrative development
  • Contributor briefing and coordination
  • Contextual and factual review
03

Writing, editing & bilingual production

We develop and refine texts in Arabic and English, attending to meaning, voice and the circumstances in which each language is read. Editorial review continues through the designed pages.

Scope of work
  • Original writing and structural editing
  • Arabic–English editorial translation
  • Copy editing and terminology systems
  • Bilingual comparison and consistency
  • Layout and pre-print proofreading
04

Art direction & publication design

We develop a visual language from the publication’s content. Typography, images, page architecture and material decisions work together to give it an identity and a reading rhythm.

Scope of work
  • Art direction and image sequencing
  • Bilingual grids and typography
  • Cover design and full publication layout
  • Caption, credit and navigation systems
  • Print-ready production artwork
05

Photography & visual documentation

Photography develops alongside the editorial direction, with a clear role for each image. We document people, places, artworks and working processes according to the needs of the publication.

Scope of work
  • Artist and environmental portraits
  • Studios, workspaces and creative processes
  • Artwork and detail photography
  • Image selection and post-production
  • Colour correction and print preparation
06

Print production & quality control

We translate the approved design into production specifications and work with the selected printer through proofing and approval. Paper, binding and finishing are part of the reading experience.

Scope of work
  • Paper, material and binding consultation
  • Printer liaison and prepress coordination
  • Colour, resolution and production-file review
  • Physical proofs and printed samples
  • Production corrections and final approval

04 / Process

One considered process.

Research, editorial development, design and production are planned together, with clear review stages throughout.

01

Define the publication

Understand the purpose, audience and available material. Establish the editorial architecture, visual direction, bilingual approach and production framework.

02

Develop the material

Research, interview, write and edit. Coordinate contributors and photography, shape the narrative, and review the Arabic and English content together.

03

Shape the publication

Develop the design system, sequence text and images, and build the complete publication. Review the layout and both languages through agreed milestones.

04

Prepare for print

Complete proofreading and production artwork. Confirm materials, review proofs and the printed sample, and coordinate corrections before final print approval.

Beyond a single edition

For annual publications and recurring projects, the first edition can establish an editorial and visual system that develops over time. Each subsequent edition builds on that framework while responding to new material and ideas.

05 / Commission a publication

Begin with the project.

Tell us what you are working on, who the publication is for and what material already exists. We can help define the publication before its format, scope and production requirements are fixed.

A short introduction, your intended audience and an indicative timeline are a useful place to start.
